HANDS ON INLAND EMPIRE

(Good for individuals & families)

  • Community-based organization that helps connect businesses, community groups, & families with volunteer projects in all areas for all ages.
  • Commitment: Projects range from one-time to longer term, ongoing opportunities.

BIG BROTHERS / BIG SISTERS OF GREATER LOS ANGELES & THE INLAND EMPIRE

  • Community based organization that connects children from single-parent homes with adult volunteers who serve as friends, mentors, & rold models.
  • Commitment: At least 4 hours per month with at least a 1 year commitment (ages 18+).

MORENO VALLEY LITERACY PROGRAM

  • Community-based program that offers free literacy training for anyone 13 years & older.
  • Commitment: At least 1-2 hours per week.
  • Contacts: Anyone interested in becoming a tutor should contact Laura Betts at (951) 242-6366.

CAMP ALANDALE – IDYLLWILD

  • A Christian camp for abused & neglected children ages 9-18 that are wards of the court & are living in group or foster homes in Orange & San Diego Counties.
  • Commitment: Held for 1 week in the summer and on weekends in the winter.
  • Requirements: 21+ years old to volunteer, a Christian for at least 2 years.
  • Jr. Counselors at 16-20 years old can also volunteer to work the camp by preparing food, cleaning, help with games & crafts, & be an example to campers.

RONALD McDONALD HOUSE OF LOMA LINDA

  • A home for children undergoing treatment for cancer & other serious illnesses at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital & other nearby facilities.
  • Commitment: All levels of commitment are needed, several days a week, or even just a one time visit.
  • Volunteers needed in the following areas: Fundraising, Program Development, Event Planning, & Serving Families.

THE SHEEPFOLD SHELTER – RIVERSIDE

  • Christian-based organization that provides shelter & other services to abused women & their children.
  • Commitment: At least 4 hours a month for volunteers, few hours a week to mentor a child.

FOOTHILL FAMILY SHELTER – UPLAND

  • Community-based organization that houses homeless families with children located in Upland.
  • Contacts: To apply to volunteer go line at http://www.foothillfamilyshelter.org or call (909) 920-5568.

HEARTLINE MINISTRIES

  • Christian-based organization aimed at educating women about alternatives to abortion. The organization also provides services to new mothers.
  • Commitment: Volunteers needs in all areas at all commitment levels, all the way from volunteering as an actual counselor to volunteering to take home laundry from the donations they receive.
  • Contacts: To volunteer call (951) 682-6881 to set up an interview.
  • Heartline also accepts donations in the form of all baby products & clothing including maternity clothing at 6881 Brockton Avenue in Riverside.

BIRTH CHOICE OF TEMECULA

  • Christian-based organization aimed at educating women about alternatives to abortion. The organization also provides services to new mothers.
  • Commitment: Volunteers needed in all areas including counseling, church liaisons, community event team members, pro-life speakers, & licensed RNs.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (CAP) – MORENO VALLEY

  • Community-based program that provides food assistance to less fortunate families living in the City of Moreno Valley.
  • CAP also accepts donations in the form of food & clothing.

MEALS ON WHEELS – RIVERSIDE & ONTARIO

  • Community-based program that provides meal services to those in need – particularly to seniors.
  • Contacts: To apply to volunteer visit http://www.mowaa.org or call the Riverside office at (951) 683-7151 or the Ontario office at (909) 983-0203.

VA VOLUNTEER SERVICE (VAVS) – US DEPT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS – LOMA LINDA

  • Government-based program located in Loma Linda that provides for veterans while they are cared for by VA healthcare facilities.
  • Commitment: Volunteers assist veteran patients by supplementing staff with end-of-life care programs, foster care, community-based volunteer programs, hospital wards, nursing home, & veteran outreach centers.

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS’ VETERANS HISTORY PROJECT

  • Government-based program to gather the oral recordings of veterans from World War I to present Afghanistan & Iraqi conflicts. The Veterans History Project is a national volunteer effort focused on preserving veterans’ war stories that relies on a national network of organizations & individuals to record those interviews & submit them to the permanent collections of the Library of Congress.

RIVERSIDE NATIONAL CEMETERY – MEMORIAL HONOR DETAIL

  • The Memorial Honor Detail (MHD) is an all volunteer non-profit organization whose mission is to provide military honors at no charge for deceased veterans being buried at Riverside National Cemetery.

  • Memorial Honor Detail allows both veteran & non-veteran volunteers.

HOSPICE OF THE VALLEYS

  • Located in Sun City, Hospice of the Valleys provides in-home care to terminally ill patients & their families.
  • Commitment: Hospice is currently seeking volunteers to work with terminally ill patients & their families. They are also looking for volunteers who would like to help with patient care, bereavement support, office duties, & special projects & events. Commitment depends on duration of project.

VOLUNTEER CENTER OF RIVERSIDE COUNTY

  • Community-based organization that matches people with various volunteer organizations.
  • Contacts: Call (951) 686-4402 to apply as a volunteer.
  • Also, by dialing 2-1-1 is a line where you can get referrals to human services agencies in Riverside County (can give to someone in need of services or can call to get contact information for various organizations that may need volunteers).
  • This organization is also the head of HELPline, a crisis & suicide line staffed by volunteers.

USA FREEDOM CORPS
(Good for individuals & families)

  • Government organization that matches people with various volunteer organizations.
  • Volunteer opportunities include those for the whole family.
